Olivia Botha's 'The Warmth Of The City' was made for her 2022 DAAD fellowship exhibition titled 'Wilting Flowers'. The body of work is an exploration of the intricate connection between physical surroundings and societal dynamics. It is a personal journey of self-discovery amidst unfamiliar terrain, symbolized by Botha’s arrival in Berlin after leaving South Africa. Throughout history, flowers have conveyed silent messages in life and art and Botha used the flowers she filled her new studio space with as a point of departure for her practice. Her choice of flowers signifies her emotional connection to her new space, where their transient beauty mirrors life’s impermanence.
