Lushen Moodley
Born in 1983, in Tshwane, where I am currently based. I am currently completing my fourth year of a
BA Visual Arts degree at UNISA while working as a freelance visual artist.
My practice is characterized by deep personal exploration connected to childhood, cultural identity,
memory, mythology, and popular culture. My work draws on universal emotions around loss, anxiety,
and struggle.
I try to combine realism with elements of symbolism and abstraction. Through textures, mark-making
and delicate expressions of the figure and face. My drawings, paintings, and video art pieces attempt
to weave together both the magical and ephemeral. My work is both hopeful and brooding.
