Anitra Nettleton
Instrumental in founding the Standard Bank Collection of African Art at the Wits Art Museum in 1978, Anitra Nettleton has curated many exhibitions and has been a Professor of History of Art at the University of the Witwatersrand since the 1980s.
During the course of an academic career that spanned nearly four decades, Nettleton had a significant impact on the development of the discipline in South Africa. She played a huge role in implementing African art history as a core competence in the department and was committed to establishing the Wits Art Museum’s collection of African art as one of the most significant museum collections on the continent.
