Latitudes Centre for the Arts | All That She Carried
Latitudes Centre for the Arts (LCA) Presents: All That She Carried
LCA celebrates Women's Month with All That She Carried, a large-scale group exhibition. Echoing historian Tiya Alicia Miles' acclaimed book, this exhibition delves into the experiences of women navigating the complexities of womanhood in South Africa.
Exploring Two Key Themes:
Women in Progress:
Moving beyond the image of “ever complete”, this exhibition celebrates the journey of self-discovery. Through their art, the artists embrace the imperfections and incompleteness that pave the way for growth and transformation.
Women in Motion:
All That She Carried acknowledges the historical under-representation of women, particularly women of colour. It explores the tools, both figurative and literal, that have shaped them and the struggles they navigate while forging their own paths.
This exhibition serves as a powerful tribute to the resilience of women and the weight of history they carry forward. It invites us to consider the complexities of identity, the ongoing struggle for recognition, and the transformative power of self-discovery.
