Passage

Passage (2022) Acrylics on canvas, 53 x 53cm, 371€ (VAT excluded)

I explore notions of "home" and "belonging" through my painting practice. This exploration is centred around my own experience of space, as I find myself living in different parts of the world, away from the country where I was born and raised. 

Passage is informed by one of the many centuries-old, ceramic tile designs (known as "azulejos") found in the city of Seville, Spain, where I am currently based. The marks of time that can be found on these historic tiles, like chips, scratches, and faded colours could be seen as visual traces of lost moments. Passage thus refers to the loss of time passing by, but also literally to an "in between" space, like a passage in a building.
