Dela Anyah

A self-taught textile artist, working primarily with discarded tyre tubes and tyres as his medium; Dela Anyah explores themes of identity and rebirth through sculpture and installation. He was born, lives and works in Accra, Ghana. Employing a complex array of woven (discarded) tyre tubes sourced from various regions of Ghana and beyond, his abstract compositions examine the transformations of the human soul. He draws on his personal history, influences from Ewe culture combined with observations from his religious upbringing and escapades to his mothers fashion workshop formerly located in their home. Dela Anyah has since the genesis of his creative journey been featured in group exhibitions both nationally and internationally. Specifically, Art Retrospective at the Alliance Français in 2017 and Exhibition of Ghanaian Artists Works at iArt Gallery Tbilissi, Georgia in 2018 respectively. His growth as an artist set the foundation for a prolific execution of solo exhibitions of his series Beauty from Chaos which began in 2018 and 2019 at the Canadian High Commission and Antique Lemonade Art Space. He currently serves as an Artist in Residence at the Noldor Artist Residency in Ghana, where he continues to re-envision the beauty of metamorphosis; the transition from discarded to sustainable art.
